Artwork Inspired by:
"Composition VIII" By: Wassily Kandinsky Scholars engaged in conversation about what they see, think and wonder about the artwork shown above www.wassilykandinsky.net/work-50.php. Through conversation scholars expressed knowledge of elements of art such as line, shape and color. We discussed different painting techniques using digital as well as watercolor materials. For their artist challenge, they were asked: How might you make a painting by showing colors, lines and shapes?

"The Artist's Garden at Giverny" By: Claude Monet "Point of Tranquility" By: Morris Louis During art class, scholars engaged in conversation about the two pieces of artwork above (www.claude-monet.com/the-artists-garden-at-giverny.jsp and www.wikiart.org/en/morris-louis/point-of-tranquility-1960 ). Through discussion, scholars noticed the various colors and texture within the pieces and how one is more abstract from the other as well as the calm feeling one might get when viewing the artwork. For their artist challenge, they were first asked: How might you arrange 10 different colors in a painting? and then: How might you make a painting by mixing colors together? |

Scholars engaged in conversation about what they see, think and wonder about graphics in video games. Through conversation scholars expressed knowledge of images made from squares known as pixels. For their artist challenge, they were asked: How might you create a piece of artwork out of pixels?
