Artists: Tim Okamura, Kehinde Wiley, Tawny Chatmon, Lorana Simpson and Andreea Robescu Scholars engaged in conversation about what identity is and the different values one might have. Through conversation scholars expressed knowledge of different values and character traits that make them who they are. For their artist challenge, they were asked: How can you show off your personality/strength in a self portrait? and How might you take a self and alter it to drawing digitally on it?

"Guitar, Sheet Music and Glass 1912" By: Pablo Picasso During art class scholars engaged in conversation about what they see, think, feel and wonder about the piece shown above (https://www.pablo-ruiz-picasso.net/work-4000.php). Through discussion of scholars learned about different elements of art such as line, shapes, and texture. Scholars also reviewed what a collage is and how you can use shapes on Google slides to arrange in order to create an image. For their artist challenge, they were asked: How might you arrange the shapes to create an image?

Anime and Pokemon Scholars engaged in conversation about how anime is a Japanese cartoon. We watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh-OtdjYmT4. Through discussion scholars were able to talk about the different elements of art within anime drawings such as bold use of color and lines as well as shapes. Then there were given the artist challenge: How might you create an original anime or Pokemon character?

What We Stand For! Scholars engaged in conversation about what anime is and how anime can be used to create a story to represent something you stand for. Scholars watched a short animation that was on Google.com for Women's Day. You can watch the clip here: https://g.co/doodle/nggmw4g. After watching the clip scholars learned the basics of animation that include frames, onion tool and frames per second. They were then given the artist challenge: How might you create an animation that shows something you stand for? They explored using https://brush.ninja/. Feel free to create your own!
